Ashton Residence

A new home has been built at the historic family homestead of a retired couple near Vegreville, Alberta. This modest 1400 square foot, two bedroom ranch-style bungalow features our modified and easy-to-build straw bale construction and wrap around veranda to protect the house but also embrace the prairie views beyond.

Deep seat-height window sills created by the thick straw bale walls are lined with recycled wood from the leg of a grain elevator, which gives the wood it’s unique texture and look. Veranda columns and beams feature pine beetle-killed wood sourced from Northern Alberta.
